Flooding by the Smestow River, Gothersley, Staffordshire
Flooding by the Smestow River, Gothersley, Staffordshire
In the 1990s the Smestow Brook was dredged in several places and the sludge was put on its western bank, thus deepening the channel to over a metre and promoting its status from brook to river. Here the former floodplain area between the river and the canal has been flooded and the level is higher than the river, unable it seems to drain away.
