SO5012 : Victorian Pillar Box in Monmouth
Monmouth/Trefynwy, Monmouthshire, Great Britain

Victorian Pillar Box in Monmouth
Of a type of letter box known as a "Penfold" because it was designed by the architect, J.W. Penfold. This example is one of only 19 of the original 1866 type which still survive, according to the Shire Album number 188, "Old Letter Boxes" by Martin Robinson (ISBN 0852638469). The enamelled flap over the posting aperture, bearing the word "Letters", has been carelessly painted over. The whole pillar box is in want of another coat of paint.
