Ashwood Basin, Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal
Ashwood Basin, Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal
A railway was built from local collieries in 1829 to carry coal to the head of this basin. The could then be transported by south via the canal to the River Severn, or towards the Midlands. Now the basin is a privately owned marina with a small boatyard. A viaduct carries what was a Roman road across the basin.
