TM0732 : Constable, that's a Gainsborough: sign near Lower Barn Farm
taken 4 years ago, near to Dedham, Essex, England
This year's old annual walking week-end took us to that lovely border country between Suffolk and Essex immortalised by Gainsborough and Constable. Wool churches, Titfield Thunderbolt style branches, delightful farmland, paddling on the river, Flatford Mill, Willy Lot's cottage and rather too much of the delicious types of food and drink that the formerly libertarian Boris Johnson now wants us to eschew!
A 79 mile long route across Suffolk, using the Stour Valley Path to Sudbury and Long Melford and then going via Lavenham and Little Welnetham to Bury St Edmunds, burial place of the martyr King Edmund slain by the Danes in 869, along the waymarked Lark Valley Path (13 miles and included on OS mapping) to the Icknield Way Path at West Stow before striking over the Brecks to Thetford and the Hereward Way.
