Brewster Hill
Brewster Hill
Situated high on a nab, the farmstead is mentioned in a 1625 document called the Tancred Deed: "Two messuages called Brewster Hill Farms". In the 1841 census James Sherwood was the farmer while the 1891 census lists the occupier as Martin Farnaby, a mere farmworker. This probably reflects the beginning of the gradual absorption of the many smaller farms in bigger units. Brewster Hill is now run as part of St. Agnes House farm (SE5291 : St. Agnes House). In 1993 Brewster Hill was last uninhabited and had been so since 1951. Although I didn't climb up toit I got the impression it had now been reoccupied.
