Saltdean Lido
Saltdean Lido
Built in 1937 by RHW Jones who was also the architect responsible for the Ocean Hotel that can be seen on the horizon. The Lido has remained popular ever since despite a period in the 1970s when there were plans to demolish it. The Ocean Hotel was opened in 1938 and was designed to resemble the bridge of an ocean liner. For years it was run by Butlins but finally closed as a hotel in Christmas 2004. It will be converted into flats. This view looks north east from left hand corner of the square and includes the pitch and putt golf course and the central portion of Saltdean.
