SU6204 : St. Mary's Portchester from the north

St. Mary's Portchester from the north
St. Mary's Portchester from the north
A view of the northern side of St.Mary's, a Norman church dating from the middle of the C12th and situated within the Roman walls of Portchester Castle.
The Northern Transept seen here has survived, while its southern counterpart has been demolished. Originally the church was attached to an Augustinian Priory, but the monks moved to Southwick in the mid C13th and this was perhaps when the South Transept which connected the church to the priory fell into disrepair, though I have no information to substantiate this suggestion.
