Lime Kiln in Biddlecombe
Lime Kiln in Biddlecombe
This neglected, ivy-covered kiln at the bottom of Biddlecombe was used to produce quick lime from the local bedrock; limestone. The quick lime was spread on fields or used for lime-washing buildings. To produce quick lime the limestone had to be heated for up to 60 hours and the woods of Biddlecombe would gave been a good source of fuel.
