The convent chapel at Old Hall - The Assumption
The convent chapel at Old Hall - The Assumption
The convent chapel at Old Hall was built in 1856 by George Goldie, who is considered to have been one of the most influential architects of the Gothic revival period (mid-19th century). The chapel is a Grade II listed building, deconsecrated when the property was sold during the 1970s. The marble altar that once stood below the large painting of the Assumption - depicted here in detail - has long since been removed but the consecration crosses on the walls are still in place, as are most of the stained glass windows and the splendid wall painting in the apse at its west end; see > TM0734 : The convent chapel at Old Hall - view west for full view.
