Stony smile
Stony smile
A sinister expression on the rock surface!

This image and its companion SN0541 : Flat fish on stone are examples of Leisegang rings, a natural phenomenon, which in geology involves the cyclical precipitation of a secondary (ferrous) mineral within a fluid saturated rock giving the effect of these concentric bands of colour, which can resemble the product of artifice.
