Holborn: Sicilian Avenue, WC1
This is the reverse view, taken from Southampton Row, of David's TQ3081 : Sicilian Avenue, Holborn showing the avenue which was originally designed as a pedestrianized area for The Bedford Estate. It was completed in 1910. There is a screen at either end of the avenue, the far one visible through the near one. The screen consists of two Ionic columns on plinths carrying an entablature with the words "Sicilian Avenue" on the frieze, surmounted by a balustrade with urns on the two central piers. It is a Grade II listed structure. The street trees are London Planes.
