St Pancras Church
St Pancras Church
On the junction of Eastgate Square and St Pancras. The first church was constructed between the 11th and 13th centuries to serve the small suburb that grew outside the walls next to Eastgate. However, the suburb and church were ruined during William Waller's siege of Chichester in 1642 the old tower being used to mount cannon to fire over the city walls. Consequently, the area was left in ruins and remained so until the 18th century when the suburb was rebuilt with Georgian townhouses and the church was rebuilt in 1750 to serve both it and ease the overcrowding of the other parish churches within the walls.
