This concrete post has the initials H U D C, which stand for Hoole Urban District Council.
In 1864 the Hoole Local Board of Health was formed. This was mainly concerned with building drains and paving streets. In 1867 Hoole got its own parish church, All Saints, and in 1894 was designated an Urban District Council [UDC] with extra powers such as housing and planning. In 1895 the first Council was elected and Mr. E N Humphries was the first Councillor to take a seat.
The last meeting of the Hoole Urban District Council, took place on 8th. March 1954
