Pont Britannia Bridge
Pont Britannia Bridge
The second bridge to span the Menai Strait, as seen from near the Pont y Borth. A box bridge was built here in the 1840's with Robert (son of George) Stephenson as its chief engineer. The bridge was opened in 1850. However, it was badly damaged by a fire in 1970 and had to be rebuilt. It is still only single carriageway, but also carries the railway on a lower deck.
