Basingwerk Abbey
Basingwerk Abbey
Founded in 1132, this abbey was home and workplace of Cistercian monks for 400 years, until they were driven out by the Dissolution in 1536. The monks were the first to harness the power of the Holywell Stream, using the power to grind corn.
