TQ8766 : Lone pine

taken 10 years ago, near to Lower Halstow, Kent, Great Britain

Lone pine
Lone pine
Individual trees in the middle of fields are quite unusual, but here we have a pine tree standing totally isolated on the top of a hill, and pretty much in the middle of a huge field. The crop at present is oilseed rape.
Older maps suggest that parts of this field were once orchards, so this tree might have stood on a hedge line. Even so, a lone pine is an unusual tree to see in this part of Kent.
