NJ2900 : Dalphuil

taken 10 years ago, 4 km from Lary, Aberdeenshire, Great Britain

This is 1 of 2 images, with title Dalphuil in this square
Dalphuil is the building on the other side of the River Gairn. Once a school and schoolhouse, it was acquired by the then Queen in 1950 and saved from becoming derelict. "Dalphuil" means "field of the pool", presumably a reference to a salmon pool in the river. (Source: "In Memory Long" by Amy Stewart Fraser.)
When the picture was taken there had been a rapid thaw of the snow on the surrounding hills resulting in a sharp rise in the river level.
