The Old Rectory, Alcester
The Old Rectory, Alcester
Seen from the porch of St Nicholas's church, this house was built in 1796 - in the days when the rector of a market town was considered a more prestigious post than it is today. The house became a private residence in the 1980s. It has an important claim to fame: the 11th century Alcester 'Tau Cross' was found in the garden - this is now in the British Museum (although at the time of writing it was temporarily on display in the town). See LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link ) for more information about the cross.
