This is a closeup of the sign in TQ4465 : Sign at Crofton. At the base of the sign is a plaque which explains the four symbols. It reads:

"This sign commemorates the 50th Anniversary of Crofton Residents’ Association (founded 1945).

‘Bishop Odo’
Commissioner of the Bayeux Tapestry and owner of the Crofton Estate at the time of the Domesday Book.

‘The Crofton Oak’
Until 1967 a noted landmark at the junction of Crofton Road and Crofton Avenue.

Commemorating the extensive fruit farming carried out in the area.

Emperor of Rome when Crofton Villa was occupied."
