Bridge between the Thorney Channel and Thorney Island Saltwater Marshes
Seawalls linking Thorney Island with the mainland were built in 1870. The sea walls had been breached for a number of years before the Chichester Harbour Conservancy bought the site in 1996. The sea had encroached onto the farmland during high tides and salt water plants had colonised the area. The sea defences were rebuilt with a small gap so that tides could still enter the area and a saltmarsh has been established.
