SE2070 : Stone post at Coal Hill

taken 10 years ago, near to Greygarth, North Yorkshire, Great Britain

Stone post at Coal Hill
Stone post at Coal Hill
This stone is marked as 'Stone Post' on the 1854 map, but a search of archaeology websites reveals nothing about its history. It does have an OS bench mark on one side and it stands next to the medieval market road linking the Pateley Bridge area with the former market centre of Kirkby Malzeard. The nearby moorland is pock marked with old pits, which are post medieval shallow coal workings.
