Foot and bridle path near Holehouse
Foot and bridle path near Holehouse
This public path skirts a small stream and runs down to the Breich water. The banks on the right of the image are tailings from a small mine. On the left is the start of Stoneheap woodlands, part of a 'natural' plantation of native woodland trees, such as dwarf oak, rowan and alder. The area originally produced fireclay then coal. Although considerable reserves remain this is extracted using opencast methods nowadays.
