SU7239 : Alton Station

taken 36 years ago, near to Alton, Hampshire, Great Britain

Alton Station.
Alton Station.
Photographed in February 1982 this view of Alton Station shows one of two disused signal boxes. In this instance the box shown was in use by track maintenance gangs as a store and rest room. Mysteriously it was destroyed by fire shortly after this photo was taken and the remaining brickwork was removed, no trace of it remains today. Nearest the camera can be seen some cast iron blocks used as weights to replicate passenger loading when testing rolling stock.
