TL4963 : Pillbox by the Cam

Pillbox by the Cam
Pillbox by the Cam
Described by the Council of British Archaeology as "Standard type 24 thick walled, shell proof pillbox. Pillbox placed on concrete raft. Built using wood shuttering."

From what I can gather, this and TL4760 : Pillbox by the Cam and the railway line were part of the GHQ defence line, intended to hold a German invasion on the east coast thrusting towards the industrial midlands. It is strange to think that a small river like the Cam was perceived as a major obstacle to an advancing Panzer division, and probably fortunate this theory was not put to the test.
