The volume of water in the Rowley Burn flowing over the ford at this time would be enough to deter all but the most intrepid driver. Fortunately there is an alternative footbridge for walkers. It appears that in the last six to nine years, the straight weir seen in NY9258 : Ford at Whitley Mill has been replaced by a series of revetments channelling the main flow of water into the middle of the stream.
