TQ2785 : Cobbled Together
Hampstead, Camden, Great Britain

Cobbled Together
Detail of the cobbles in the bus terminus at South End Green. Once, many of London's streets would have been surfaced in this manner. Many cobbles were lifted and replaced by tarmac at the same time as the tram tracks were removed. Others were simply tarmac'd over and occasionally resurface when the road surface breaks up. The D is the last letter of the words 'bus stand' painted onto the road surface to remind other users that they shouldn't be here.
