The Reader's desk in the chapel of Beamsley Hospital, Beamsley
As usual in the older almshouses, there is a chapel, and the residents are required to attend services at intervals during the week. A visiting Reader came to read passages from the Bible. The building is still shown as a 'place of worship' on the map, although it is owned by the Landmark Trust and used as a holiday cottage.
