Old Catton village sign - detail
A black cat sitting on a barrel. See also > TG2312 : Old Catton village sign. The village sign is located opposite TG2312 : St Margaret's Church at the junction of Church Street with Parkside Drive. Although nowadays considered to be a suburb of Norwich, the residents of Old Catton prefer to still regard it as a village. Old Catton covers an area of 211 hectares and, as evidenced by archaeological finds, its history dates back to the Stone Age; documented history begins in 1086 with the Domesday Book. In more recent times the author Anna Sewell wrote her book "Black Beauty" while living at Old Catton.
