TQ2587 : M1

taken 37 years ago, near to Golders Green, Barnet, Great Britain

The first of London Transport's MCW Metrobuses waits at Golders Green station on a wet January day. The type were ordered in 1977 to replace the Daimler Fleetlines and other types that had entered service in the late 1960's as replacements for the RT class, but had proved unsuitable for London. M1 first entered service on the 16 / 16A routes in 1978. As more of the class entered service it moved to less busy routes and subsequently to training duties. It is now maintained as a showbus by Metroline. Fuller information about the Ms and other London Transport bus types is available at Ian's Bus Stop, LinkExternal link
