No.20 Group Royal Observer Corps HQ: York cold war bunker
This semi-subterranean cold war bunker would have monitored nuclear explosions and fallout in the Yorkshire region. The installation was opened in 1961 and was decommissioned in 1992. Much of the bunker is actually above ground and it is doubtful if it would have withstood a nuclear attack. The bunker was located in the grounds of Shelley House, Acomb Road. Shelley House was recently replaced by a block of flats, with the address Monument Close.
The bunker is now a scheduled ancient monument. It has been fully restored and is open to the public. For more information see Link
