SD8433 : Elm Street Mill, Burnley Elm Street Mill was operated by Thomas Melland and Sons. In 1926 the mill engine was damaged by fire and replaced by a state of the art W & J Galloway cross compound extraction engine with uniflow LP cylinder, oil hydraulic valve gear and automatic compression relief. A veritable Pentium 3 for 1926.
This gorgeous beast cost £8000 and is now preserved and workable at the Greater Manchester Museum of Science & Industry, Castlefields.
