The level crossing by which the riverside cycle path crosses the Newcastle to Carlisle railway has been completely reconfigured at some point in the last 20 months. The only comparable image of the old crossing can be seen in NY9265 : Level crossing on the Newcastle to Carlisle railway line near The Spital.The new crossing gate determines that cars can no longer traverse the crossing (not that the path was of adequate width anyway).
