Knock Head
Knock Head
There isn't a lot of land in this square, and there's even less when the tide is high, as it was when I took this shot. The rocks are arenites and psammites of the Knock Head Grit Member of the Macduff Formation of the Southern Highland Group. Translated into plain language this means that they are sandstones metamorphosed into hard quartzite by heat and pressure. They can be traced right across Scotland from here to Kintyre in Argyll.
