SK4930 : Red Hill lock

taken 10 years ago, near to Ratcliffe on Soar, Nottinghamshire, Great Britain

Red Hill lock
Red Hill lock
This is the lowest lock on the Soar Navigation and on this day had all gates open due to relatively high water levels on the Soar and Trent. It is not a true flood lock as it does not have counter-facing gates to protect the navigation from flooding when river levels are higher than the canal The bridge spans the middle of the lock which is an unusual position.
