Aldersley Canal Junction, Wolverhampton
At the bottom of the "Wolverhampton 21" the Birmingham Canal Navigation reaches the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal here at Aldersley. The twenty-one locks up from here give a rise of 132 feet (forty metres) to the level which Thomas Telford maintained all the way to Birmingham when he straightened James Brindley's original (1769-1772) route between 1823 and 1838.
