According to the 2005 edition os the OS Explorer map the National Cycleway No.1 used this stretch of the dismantled railway which ran along the coast from Runswick Bay to Kettleness. The permissive right of way was removed from the 2006 edition although the route markers are still shown on the map at the start and finish of the section.
Early in 2008 gates and private signs were erected and some walkers were stopped and turned back by staff of the Mulgrave Estate. The footpath officers at the NYM National Park have asked the estate to remove the signs and allow public use in the meantime while evidence of use is collected.
