Whitworth Boundary Sign on Rochdale Road
Whitworth Boundary Sign on Rochdale Road
Looking South East down the A671 Rochdale Road.
The old Rochdale to Bacup railway line used to run down the right hand side of the picture.
When it was built in the 19th century, the line was the highest on the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway's network
It closed to passengers on 16 June 1947.
The line remained open to goods traffic until the mid 1960s but by the end of 1967 the line no longer existed.
