The old copper at Westland
The old copper at Westland
This receptacle, made of cast iron not copper, was once an indispensable item in every household and remarkably it survives intact at this ruined farm. It would have been built into a separate outhouse where the women would have slaved to fill it with water and keep a fire going underneath in order to do the family washing. A similar one can be seen in situ in this image SN0740 : Old copper
