The Boathouse Alexandra Park Oldham
The park was created in 1865 to provide work for unemployed cotton workers during the 'cotton famine' caused by the American Civil War. The park was intended to provide the workers with a pleasant place for both relaxation and exercise. The boating lake used to have rowing boats for hire and an electric launch for the less energetic. The park, restyled and restored with lottery funding was reopened in 2004.
