Snailbeach Lead Mine, Worthen with Shelve CP
This mine was a hive of activity in the 19C, employing 500 men and with its own branch railway to the main line at Pontesbury. The workings reached 500m below the surface. There are the ruins of the engine house further up the hill; a Cornish beam engine was installed in 1858. The ruins have been stabilised and there are explanatory boards.
