A overview of this extensive slate quarry which was accessed was by a very steep track from Sykeside in the valley below. This has left which has left many scars on the slope. It ceased to operate in 1934 when 24 men were employed, 10 below ground the rest on the surface. Far below Brotherswater catches the winter's sunshine.
