SN0726 : Twmpath

taken 10 years ago, near to Maenclochog, Pembrokeshire/Sir Benfro, Great Britain

This guest house is the subject of the first Geograph SN0726 : House on an Island. The word twmpath, meaning a tump, mound or hummock, was applied to a place in a village where the community would gather to make music and make merry with singing and dancing, and the name is now applied to folk music sing-songs of that sort, the Welsh version of the ceilidh.

(On the earliest OS map of the area the name is Twmpath y cwn/dogs' mound.)
