The Acland Statue
The Acland Statue
The statue of Sir Thomas Dyke Acland (1787-1871) casts an evening shadow against the city wall in Northernhay Gardens, where it was sited after gale damage in 1930. According to LinkExternal link , "in the ensuing years, the eminent gentleman's head was lost to vandalism, along with yet more parts of his anatomy". The Aclands are a major family in Devon's history.
