Warning sign on the beach, Kimmeridge Bay
Warning sign on the beach, Kimmeridge Bay, taken 9 years ago
The red sign reads: "Danger. Live firing range. When the red flag above you is flying do not pass along the beach." The beach beyond this point (as far as Charnel at the western end of the bay) is open to the public when the range walks are open. The flagpole above this sign is at the south-eastern corner of the Lulworth Range, next to the Kimmeridge oil well.

In the foreground, on the left, is a small thrust of an expansion megapolygon in The Flats dolomite bed - the 'breaking wave' type front of the thrust is heavily jointed. Plenty more geological detail on Ian West's website "Geology of the Wessex Coast".
