Campsie Primary School
Campsie Primary School
Officially opened on 4th April, 1962 by the HRH The Queen Mother. Campsie Primary School, (Local education authority: Western Education and Library Board), and it is a Mixed school of Non Denominational religion. It replaced the old Model Primary School (demolished) opposite the Bus station, where the new South-West college stands. There is a security fence to prevent vandalism.

The old Model School opened its doors on 8th Nov, 1859. It was erected by the Commissioners for National Education. As in common with the National Schools, it catered for pupils of all religions in its early years. Previous headmasters were Mr Alexander Greer to 1863, Mr S A Ferguson (known as Fisty), Mr James Mulholland retired in 1915, Mr Mr R T Newell, B.A., M.B.E., J.P. (an Omagh man and a former pupil, was Headmaster for over 40 years). The last Headmaster was Mr Norman McClure, M.A known as "Baldy McClure", I don't know for why because he had a thick mop of white wavy hair. I remember that some of the older disruptive pupils stayed at school until their early teens and got to the stage when they towered over Mr McClure and when it came to administrating the cane (and it was frequent), Baldy had to call on Marcus Pigott, the Vice Principal who was a "hard nut"
