This is a picture of the Courtauld Silk Mill in Halsted Essex, it was opened in 1809. Even when this picture was taken the water mill was a historical curiosity today it is an antiques centre. In 1975 when the picture was taken there was still a working mill in the vicinity.
TL8130 : Courtauld Mill, Halstead A very important site and I believe this featured in Eric de Mare's book "The Functional Tradition" looking at industrial architecture. An early work on this subject.
Many of his subjects have gone but others are still recognisable today.
He also wrote better know books on canals and bridges. I would recommend them, he was a talented photographer.
