The Old Baths, Parkgate
The Old Baths, Parkgate
Near the Boathouse public house in Parkgate, the outdoor swimming baths closed in the middle of the 20th century but the name remains. The car park is a popular meeting place for birdwatchers on Gayton Sands Nature Reserve, the RSPB owns or manages over 12000 acres of the Dee Estuary which is important for the huge numbers of wintering waders and wildfowl and for breeding redshank and skylark. The very high spring tides in the winter are particularly spectacular and the Old Baths provide an ideal vantage point.
