SK8524 : Sproxton village hall

taken 10 years ago, near to Sproxton, Leicestershire, Great Britain

Sproxton village hall
Sproxton village hall
Built in 1871 as the village school room; note the old school bell above the windows.
Sproxton is on the border of the Leicestershire limestone beds and the ironstone ridge which runs across the midlands through Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire and Leicestershire into Lincolnshire. This has led to an interesting style of vernacular architecture in this village; some fine limestone detailing with ironstone infil.
Sproxton is pronounced "Sproson" and is one of a group of villages with similar spelling and pronunciation.
