Geograph - photograph every grid square

This Dutch-gabled house is on the west side of the High Street and dates from 1650.

The 1881 Census return for the building lists two separate families, and it is evident that the occupiers by this stage were artisans rather than lords!:

The first family was:

Sarah K. TICE, Daughter, age 7, born Send, Surrey, Occupation: Scholar
George TICE, Son, age 4, born Ripley, Surrey, Occupation: Scholar
Mary J. TICE, Daughter, age 2, born Ripley, Surrey
Harriet LANGRISH, Wife's Mother, widowed, age 80, born East Meon, Hampshire

and the second was:

George LANGRISH, Head of the household, married, age 53, born Blendworth, Hampshire, Occupation: Carrier
Mary LANGRISH, Wife, married, age 53, born Ockham, Surrey, Occupation: Carrier's Wife
Thomas LANGRISH, Son, unmarried, age 24, born Ripley, Surrey, Occupation: Carrier's Assistant
Harriet LANGRISH, Daughter, age 15, born Ripley, Surrey, Occupation: Domestic Servant
John WHITE, Lodger, unmarried, age 30, born Billingshurst, Sussex, Occupation: Draper & Grocer's Assistant

Given that Harriet Langrish was living next door and that George Langrish was born in Hampshire like Harriet, it is not unreasonable to assume that Harriet was George's mother.
