The disused mine is marked on the 1:25,000 OS sheet, but not on the 1:50,000. The location is on the western outcrop of the Carboniferous Productive Coal Measures, so it is likely that mining for coal has taken place here in the past. This would provide a good link for the Colliers Arms Public House in Grid Square SE1122.
